What is Reiki?
Reiki is Love. Reiki is also a stress-reduction and relaxation technique that promotes health and happiness to the body-mind-spirit. With its origins in Tibetan Buddhism and Shamanic Healing, Reiki is a popular form of holistic health today. Reiki is not a religion and does not require belief in anything for it to work. All that is required for Reiki to work is a sincere desire from the client to invite more peace in their lives.
What does a Reiki session look like?
During a Reiki session, the client rests fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner gently places their hands on or above the client’s body with the intent for universal Reiki energy to flow. The client becomes very relaxed and at peace. With the increase in the healing energy flow, the client's body-mind-spirit is better able to restore and regenerate itself.
Although each Reiki session is unique, many of my clients will enter a state just before true sleep - a lucid, dream-like state called Theta Brain Waves. In this state, clients often report a feeling of deep peace or a sense of energy flowing throughout their body. My clients have also reported temperature changes, a feeling of being held, and they often will have inner visions or see a variety of beautiful colors in this deeply relaxed state.
It is important to remember that it is the energy that does the healing, not the practitioner. Reiki is always safe, will never do harm and is always adjusting for the individual client's needs.
How Does Reiki Work?
Your body-mind-soul system is a self-healing mechanism. Under prolonged stress and/or trauma, the system gets stuck in a sympathetic nervous system response (fight or flight) and forgets how to maintain this miracle of self-correction. Reiki works by way of reducing stress and increasing the parasympathetic nervous system response (a.k.a. the “Rest and Digest” response). In this deeply relaxed state, powerful self-healing and balance is restored on multiple layers of being - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Who Can Give Reiki Healing?
Everyone has the ability to give Reiki healing. An attunement to the Reiki energy as well as proper training in the subject will greatly enhance your ability to give and connect to Reiki. During Reiki Training, the Master Teacher will "attune" you to the energy and Reiki lineage.

What does Reiki Training Consist of?
There are generally 4 levels of Reiki Training. Here is what you will learn in my Reiki Trainings:
Reiki Level I: Includes the Reiki Level I attunement, how to give a full Reiki Session on others and yourself, Reiki History. There are no prerequisites to Reiki Level I.
Reiki Level II: Includes the Reiki Level II attunement, how to incorporate the Reiki Level II symbols into a Reiki session, how to give Distance Reiki healing, and sending Reiki to the past and future. Reiki Level I is a pre-requisite to Reiki Level II.
Reiki Level III: Includes the Reiki Level III attunement, Reiki Level III symbols, Advanced Aura Clearing Technique, Reiki Crystals and the Crystal Healing and Manifestation Grid, Introduction to Chakra Balancing and use of the pendulum, how to add Reiki Color Therapy and Reiki Sound Healing to your sessions. Reiki Level II is a prerequisite to Reiki Level III.
Reiki Master Teacher Class: Includes the Reiki Level Master attunement, the Reiki Master symbols, instruction in how to pass Reiki Level I, II, III, and Master attunemnets to others, how to organize Reiki classes, and Advanced Reiki Healing attunements. Reiki Level III is a prerequisite to the Reiki Master Teacher Class.
I find that Reiki Level I and II go really well together and Reiki Level III and the Reiki Master Teacher Class go really well together. Most students will take Reiki Level I and II at the same time, and Reiki Level III and the Reiki Master Teacher Class at the same time. The Reiki trainings are set up back to back. You choose how far you want to go at any given time.
I hope you enjoyed your Intro to Reiki 101. If you have further questions, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
